SAN PERLITA, TX.
Step back in time and discover the rich history of San Perlita, a charming town nestled in east central Willacy County.
Named after the wife of the town developer, San Perlita boasts a fascinating past rooted in the Spanish and Mexican land grants of the 1800s.
Originally part of the San Juan de Carricitos land grant, the area was eventually acquired by the legendary King Ranch through a shrewd legal maneuver.
In 1926, the San Perlita Development Company was formed, and the town was meticulously planned and landscaped by Charles Rene Johnson and W. G. Hecht.
As highways and railroads reached San Perlita, the town flourished, with a post office, schools, churches, and businesses popping up to serve the growing population. Although the number of businesses decreased over the years, the sense of community remained strong.
Today, San Perlita continues to thrive, with a population of 680 in 2000.
Take a step off the beaten path and explore a piece of Texas history in this quaint town where the past comes alive.
